You will take your theory test at one of the many theory test centres scattered around the UK.Once you have your appointment date if you need to cancel simply call the booking line or do so online. To secure the return of your fee, you must give at least three working days notice.
Fail to take the correct documentation and you risk having your theory test cancelled without gaining a refund. Take with you:
your signed photocard licence and paper counterpart; or your signed driving licence and a valid passport.
If English isn’t your prefered language you can listen to a voice-over, which will read the questions to you in any of the following languages: Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Dari, Farsi, Gujarati, Hindi, Kashmiri, Kurdish, Mirpuri, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Pushto, Spanish, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu and Welsh.
If you have dyslexia or general reading difficulties you can listen to a voiceover while taking the test. You will also be permitted up to twice the normal time to take the multiple choice section.
If you have hearing difficulties the multiple choice section, and the introduction to the hazard test can be shown in British Sign Language.
This is taken using a touchscreen computer. You select your answers by touching the box next to the answer on the screen. If you want to change your answer, you simply touch the box again, and the answer will be deselected.
You don’t have to answer each question in exact sequence. You can move freely back and forth through them by pressing the Next and Previous buttons on the screen. If you are unsure about a particular question you can ‘flag’ it by pressing the Flag button. All flagged questions will then appear on the Review screen, making it easy to navigate back to them.
Before the test begins you have the option of taking a practice session, which will help you get familiar with how the test works.
